We drove towards the burning church. I had gone up to the Church with Ponyboy and Johnny. It was nice of Dallas to come by but all of that didn’t matter right now. I saw the little kids standing around the building and I knew this was going to end up bad.
Johnny jumped out of the car and Ponyboy followed. “Please stay in the car (y/n)!” Dally almost begged.
“I’m sorry!” I said as I jumped out of the car and took off after Ponyboy and Johnny. I heard Dally screaming and cussing behind me but he never got out of the car in a rush. I ran up to a fatter man who was standing there, he looked some what important. Then I heard the words “Some of the children are missing.” My heart dropped I knew those poor kids were in the building. The thought was supported by a blood curdling scream.
Johnny had already broken the boards to get into the church. I followed the two into the building as we searched for the kids. We found them huddled into the back corner. We were passing the kids to the fat man on the other side of the window. We were careful with them. We had gotten all out but one and I heard a loud crack. I knew what was about to happen.
Before Ponyboy, Johnny, and the kid could protest I pushed them hard out the window. As soon as I did a large support beam in the ceiling came crashing down on me. I blacked out and when I finally came back around I was in an ambulance with Dally sitting beside me. I had a breathing mask on my face and iv’s in my arm.
“D-Dal?” I tried to say Dally but I wasn’t able too. He squeezed my hand gently and looked at me.
“I told you to stay in the car!” Dally said almost angry.
“T-The kids?” I choked out, ignoring his comment.
“Those lucky little brats are all okay!” He looked into my eyes, his eyes weren’t as stone cold as usual. There was a glimmer of almost sorrow in his eyes, maybe even remorse. My heart felt so heavy in my chest. Everything started spinning and little black spots appeared in my vision.
I must have blacked out again because when I woke up I was in a hospital. I was lying down because if the burns. Everything hurt unbelievable bad. Dally sat next to me with Ponyboy, Johnny, and Two-Bit. Dally was in a hospital gown and I couldn’t figure out why.
“D-Dally why are you in a hospital gown?” I questioned him.
“He ran into the building to save you. He burned up his arm a little bit, that’s all.” Johnny said. Everyone was so sad and I couldn’t figure out why. Then it hit me, I wasn’t going to make it. The burns were server and I knew that.
“They wouldn’t let me see you for a while.” Dally said looking away.
“I-It’s fine.” I managed to say. The sorrow automatically consumed me. My arm was in a cast yet strangely my back and legs were numb.
“Y-You broke your back and your arm.” Two-Bit said as if it hurt him.
“Not to mention you have some very server burns.” Tears started rolling down my cheeks. I would never cry in front of any one in the gang but I had to now, I knew it was the end.
Everything suddenly didn’t seem as saddening anymore. All the pain my body was experiencing slowly faded away. My eyes became heavy, so I allowed my eyes to flutter shut. Everything became so peaceful… That is until I took my last breath and the last thing I heard was the machine let out a loud, long beep and Dally yelling at me to wake up.
